Trailer of the movie “Doodh Pither Gachh”
We all know that several Independent film makers have made movies and released their movies by the help of crowdfunding which means raising money for some work taking small amount of contribution from a large number people who are interested to support that work. But in the history of Indian cinema it has never happened that around 930 families of a small village has contributed to make a feature film. Upcoming Durga Puja release Doodh Pither Gachh is that film that has created history. The film has been crowdfunded by the villagers of Aranghata from the district of Nadia where maximum portion of the film has been shot. Apart from these 930 families, there are 196 people around the world who have also contributed for making the film. When so many people have faith to contribute their hard earned money for this film then it has to be special. The film has already traveled to several festivals and have received much accolades. Some talented film makers who have seen the film have also praised it a lot.
The film has been directed by Ujjwal Basu. It is a story about a seven year old kid named Gour. In his innocent mind he has conceptualized a fantasy land where he can grow Doodh Pither Gachh, a plant having Doodh Pithe (rice cake) by sowing one Pithe in the soil just like any other fruit. Some twists comes in his life when he gets lost in search of his dreamland. Other than the child actor Harshil Das as Gour, the film also features Daminee Beny Basu, Kaushik Roy, Shibani Maity in important characters. Other than the lead cast most of the supporting cast of the film are the actual residents of the village Aranghata and nearby places.
In the trailer of the film we can see an authentic representation of innocent childhood and rural lifestyle. Also one can experience a sheer tranquility in the trailer. Unlike most of the recent films, there is no hurry to pack details about the whole story in the small trailer, rather it has chosen to give only a brief idea about the lead characters and their life style. All the actors are looking convincing in their parts. The soothing background score by Joy Sarkar leaves a lingering effect.
Doodh Pither Gachh was supposed to release in April but due to lockdown its release get postponed , now as the cinema halls have opened the film is scheduled to release on this Durga Puja. It will be difficult for the film to get shows in the overcrowded festive season but the truth is for such a small film it is very tough to get a proper release in any season. The problem can be resolved only if the audience support the film based on its content. Hope among the crowd of almost dozen of films this sweet little gem will find its way to the heart of its target audiences.
