Srijit Mukherji to make biopic on the life of heptathlete Swapna Barman
In recent past, in Bollywood we have seen several biopics specially on sports personalities but no one has made any biopic in Bengali so far. Now director Srijit Mukherji is all set to make the first ever Bengali biopic of an sports personality. His film will be based on the life of heptathelete Swapna Barman, the girl from Bengal who has made the whole nation proud winning Gold medal in 2018 Asian Games held in Indonesia. She is the first Indian to win Gold in heptathlon.
Swapna was born in a very poor family in Jalpaiguri and she had to struggle a lot to achieve this victory. Srijit Mukherji thinks her encouraging story should reach to everyone and so he has decided to make a film on her journey. The yet untitled film will be produced by Shree venkatesh Films who have recently owned the legal rights for the subject. Very talented actress Sohini Sarakr will play the character of Swapna. Earlier she has worked with Srijit in two movies Rajakahini and Vinci Da but it will be the first time when she will play the lead in Srijit’s film. It is a very challenging role for any actor because apart from acting this role demands a lot of physical efforts too. Sohini has to go through a rigorous training to make herself look convincing as an young athlete on screen. She will be trained by none other than Subhash Sarkar who is the real life coach of Swapna Barman. Sohini is very excited getting this chance to play this challenging character.
Srijit Mukherji is currently busy with shooting of back to back movies Gumnaami and Kakababur Protyabartan. So he can start shooting for the film in 2020 only. But in the mean time pre-production for the film has started which includes Sohini’s physical training. We are looking forward to see the inspiring story of the golden girl on big screen.
