Kanchan Mallick to play Tenida in Sayantan Ghoshal’s next film
Tenida, one of the most popular fictional character from Bengali literature is all set to appear on big screen very soon. Director Sayantan Ghoshal is ready to start his next film which will be based on the story, Jhau Banglowr Rohosyo written by Narayan Gangopadhyay. Like all his earlier films once again, Sougata Basu will write the screenplay for the film which will be a contemporary take on the popular story about Tenida. Kanchan Mallick will be seen playing this iconic character of Tenida. Definitely, he has a lot of physical resemblance with the character as it has been described in the stories. Moreover no one can doubt on the comic timing of Kanchan Mallick. So casting him as Tenida is the most appropriate decision. The film will be produced by Surinder Films. Surinder Films are also the producer of Sayantan’s next to be released film Sagardwiper Jawker Dhan featuring Parambrata and Koel Mallick.
Earlier two movies and few TV series and animated series have been made based on the popular stories of Tenida among those the most popular version is the film Charmurti featuring Chinmoy Roy in the lead role which was released in 1978. Later in 2011, Chinmoy Roy had directed a movie titled as Tenida featuring Subhashish Mukhopadhyay in the title role.
People who have grown up reading famous stories of Tenida, they are huge fan of this extremely funny man and his gang having Pyalaraam, Habul and Kyabla. But in recent past most of kids have detached themselves from the habit of reading, so many kids in current generation are not much aware of this gang from the fictional place named Pataldanga. Director Sayantan Ghoshal’s film will surely help such kids to discover the hilarious yet adventurous stories of Tenida.
Apart from Kanchan, there will be Gaurav Chakrabarty, Sabysachi Chakrabarty in significant roles. Rest of the cast is yet to be disclosed. Shooting for the film will begin in the month of February at different location in North Bengal and it is expected to hit theaters sometime during the second half of this year.
