Jisshu Sengupta will be back as Chaitanya Mahaprabhu in Srijit’s next
Many years ago Jisshu Sengupta had made his acting debut in small screen with the hugely popular TV show Mahaprabhu where he had played the title role. This had made him a popular name in every household in Bengal. Now he is all set to return as the vaishnav saint Chaitnaya Mahaprabhu but this time for a movie tentatively titled as Gourango Itikatha. The movie will be directed by Srijit Mukherji and it will be produced by DAG Creative Media. DAG Creative Media is also the producer TV serial Chaitanya Shree Mahaprabhu which is currently on air. The serial is very popular and probably it has inspired them to produce a movie based on Mahaprabhu’s life. Although the serial is currently focusing on the childhood of Mahaprabhu but the film will focus on adult age of Gourango. It will trace his life and philosophy. Also there are chances that the film will show some light on the mystery around Gourango’s death. After Jaatishwar and Chatushkone it will be the third collaboration of Srijit Mukherji with the production house DAG Creative Media.
As of now the film is in scripting stage and script writer Sibashish Banerjee is doing research for this subject to select stories from Mahaprabhu’s life which will be suitable to include in the film. It will be the first time when Srijit Mukherji will do a film with a script not written by him. He is fully confident on the knowledge and research of Shibashish Banerjee and producer Rana Sarkar. As of now only Jisshu Sengupta has been finalized to play the title role, rest of the cast has not been decided yet. Shooting for the film is supposed to begin towards the end of this year and the film will be ready to release in next year.
