“Kadam Kadam” song from the movie “Gumnaami”
Here comes the new song Kadam Kadam from the movie Gumnaami, directed by Srijit Mukherji.
Kadam Kadam Badhaye Jaa is an inspiring song that was originally written and composed in 1942 by Pt. Vanshidhar Shukla and Ram Singh Thakuri respectively. This is a song that inspires every citizen to perform their duties for the nation. We are all aware that it was the march song for INA so when a film has been made about Netaji, it is a must to include this song. For the film version the song has been recreated by Indraadip Das Gupta keeping the motivational spirit of the song intact. It has been sung by Ishan Mitra along with some powerful voices in the chorus.
It was very obvious and easiest way to use this song in the context of Indian National Army aka INA but director Srijit Mukherji has chosen a different path. He has used the song to take the story forward. The song has been used to show the motivational journey of the protagonist played by Anirban Bhattacharya who is doing research work to find the missing links about Netaji’s disappearance. There are lots of obstacles on his way but he is not ready to give up, the song in the background has been used to highlight his indomitable spirit. In the video we can see how he is engrossed in his research work that begins from some studies on personal computer at home and ends with the huge collection of books in National Library. The time taken for this research has been cleverly shown with growing beard of Anirban and also his changing clothes as per different seasons. Also the song highlights how his dedication for his research work is creating a distance between him and the woman in his life played by Tnusree.
