Last year on Diwali, Shree Venkatesh Films had made a big announcement about Dev’s comeback to the production house. Later it was revealed that it will be a biopic based on the real life events of Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikari who is popularly knows as the father of Indian Football. The film will be titled as Golondaaj and it will be directed by the hugely successful director Dhrubo Banerjee who is known for his Guptodhon franchisee movies.

Currently, the film is in pre-production stage and Dev is continuously working on his fitness and football practice so that it look authentic on screen. Recently the full details of the other cast members have been disclosed. The film will feature immensely talented actor Anirban Bhattacharya in the character of a freedom fighter Bhargav. In 2015, Anirban had made his film acting debut as Dev’s on screen friend in the movie Arshinagar. Since then both of them have evolved a lot as actors. It will be interesting to see these two actors together once again. The film will also feature Ishaa Saha as Nagendra Prasad’s wife Kamalini. Singer Srikanto Acharya will be seen playing Nagendra’s father Surya Kumar Sarbadhikari. The film will also feature actor Indrashish Roy in a key character.

According to football historians, Nagendra Prasad was the first Indian who had kicked a football and showed interest in the game when he saw Britishers playing the game at Maidan. As a teenager, in 1877 he started playing the game with his classmates in his school compound at Hare School. Watching his enthusiasm for the sport, the European teachers of the school and adjacent colleges encouraged Nagendra Prasad and his companions to promote the game among students in and around Calcutta. The Boys’ Club, founded by Nagendra Prasad around this time, was the first Indian initiative at football organization. Later he formed a string of sporting clubs in Calcutta which includes the prestigious names like Wellington Club and Sovabazar Club.

Shooting for the film will begin very soon and it is expected to release sometime in summer. Dhrubo Banerjee has always tried to make his audience aware of the glorious past of Bengal through his films. Hope once again he will make Bengalis feel proud with Golondaaj by telling the unknown story of this legendary footballer Nagendra Prasad Sarbadhikkari.
