Add some sweetness to your Christmas plans with “Cheeni”, directed by Mainak Bhaumik
After seven months of lockdown, cinema halls reopened in October. Both producers and cinema hall owners were uncertain about how audience will react to this decision, despite of that more than ten new Bengali movies released during Durga Puja and one in Kali Puja. Barring two or three movies, most of the movies got very cold response in theaters. In last few weeks cinema halls have witnessed very less footfalls which shows majority of Bengali movie audience are still not willing to visit theaters. Going by this discouraging response from audience production house Shree Venkatesh Films has decided postpone the release of their next big budget film Kakababur Protyaborton which was scheduled to release during Christmas holidays. In stead of that they will now release Cheeni, written & directed by Mainak Bhaumik, on Christmas. This film has been made on moderate budget as a result it will be much safer for them to release the film in this uncertain situation.
Cheeni is a film about the love hate relationship between a 50 year old mother named Mishti and her 25 year old daughter named Cheeni. Aparajita Adhya and Madhumita Sarkar will be seen as the on screen mother daughter duo. Other than these two ladies Saurav Das will also play an important character in the film. Earlier also Mainak Bhaumik has well captured the bitter sweet equations between family members of middle class Bengali families in many of his movies, hopefully he will recreate the same magic once again in this mother daughter story. Christmas is a family holiday season and Cheeni can be a good option to spend some quality time with family members in theaters, of course maintaining the safety measures.
