Even in today’s modern world where many of us talk about equal rights for women still there are lots of things where women have to face discrimination in day to day life. Being a priest is one such example, this is a practice which is always associated with men only. This international women’s day, Windows production house is coming with their new film Brahma Janen Gopon Kammoti that will challenge this age old tradition. This film will tell the story of a female priest. So far we have heard about few female priests but never heard their stories in detail, this film will shed some light on their journeys.

As producers, Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy have always encouraged new talents, Brahma Janen Gopon Kammoti is also not an exception. It has been directed by debutante director Aritra Mukherjee who was earlier an assistant director with Shiboprosad-Nandita duo. Popular journalist and Shiboprasad Mulherjee’s wife Zinia Sen is making her debut as a writer with this film. She has written the story and screenplay for this film. The film will feature Ritabharai Chakraborty in the lead role of a female priest. She has been paired with actor Soham Majumdar who had delivered much appreciated performance in the film Kabir Singh last year. It will be his second Bengali film, after Kaushik Ganguly’s Drishtikone. The film will also feature Soma Banerjee, Manasi Sinha, Subhasish Mukherjee, Ambarish Bhattacharya in supporting characters.

Recently the trailer of the film has been released. It gives a brief idea of the story where we can see Shabari played by Ritabhari. She is a lecturer and a priest who gets married to an orthodox family. She is not a rebel, she is okay to follow the traditions but at the same time she is knowledgeable enough to question the illogical rituals.  The texture of the film looks very familiar with the kind of movies made by the production house where we can see a family drama blended with a social message. Last year on Women’s Day, Windows had won everyone’s heart with Mukherjee Dar Bou, hopefully this year also they will get the same love and appreciation for Brahma Janen Gopon Kammoti.
