“Bhalobeshe Eto Jwala Jodi Sokhi” song from the movie “Maayakumari”
Arindam Sil’s next directorial Maayakumari was supposed to hit the theaters in June but it has been delayed for the ongoing pandemic situation. The long wait has been made somewhat easy by the makers as they kept releasing the melodious songs from the film in regular intervals. Continuing that trend the third song Bhalobeshe Eto Jwala Jodi Sokhi has been released recently. The film is a tribute to the glorious 100 years of Bengali cinema. The wide range of period that has been captured in the film has influenced its music as well. So each song has its own distinct flavour.
When talking about the music of Bengali movies in last 100 years, no one can deny about the contribution of Rabindra Sangeet. The new song Bhalobeshe Eto Jwala Jodi Sokhi is a kind of tribute to the songs written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore. Both composer Bickram Ghosh and lyricist Subhendu Dasmunshi have tried to capture the similar combination of romance and melody that we usually feel in any Tagore song of this genre. Although it is a tribute but at the same time it is not blind copy or recreation of any Tagore song rather it shows the originality and creativity of the creators. Singer Iman Chakraborty has followed a genuine Rabindrik style of singing considering the theme of the song.
When most the film makers are choosing the easiest path to recreate popular Tagore songs mostly to en-cash the popularity of the song, it feels really good to see that Director Arindam Sil along with his musical team have chosen a different path to pay tribute to the great personality.
