Arindam Sil to pay tribute to 100 years of Bengali cinema with “Maayakumari”

Bengali cinema has completed glorious 100 years and director Arindam Sil is all set to pay a tribute to the 100 years of Bengali cinema with his upcoming film Maayakumari. It will be produced by Camellia Films Production who were also the producer of Arindam’s last film Mitin Maasi.

The story of the film has been written by Arindam Sil along with Subhendu Dasmunshi who has also written the screenplay, dialogues and lyrics for the film. Earlier Subhendu Dasmunshi has written screenplay for Guptodhoner Sondhaney and Durgeshgorer Guptodhon. As obvious the story will revolve around people belonging to Bengali film industry, although all the characters will be fictional but it will have several references from real life artists related with film industry from different periods.

The story is about Maayakumari a famous actress from 1940s. She had formed a successful pair with director and actor Kanan Kumar. But all of sudden when Maayakumari was in peak of her career she decided to leave films to live a secluded life along with her husband. There were lot of speculations about her sudden decision but there was no conclusive answer. Later in 2008 she died a mysterious death. Much later in 2018, a young director decides to make a film on the life of Maayakumari and Kanan Kumar. During the course of making his film, much of the mysteries from the past will be unfolded.

Actress Rituparna Sengupta will be seen playing the title role of Maayakumari. It will be her first collaboration with director Arindam Sil. Arindam’s favourite actor Abir Chatterjee will be seen in a double role as Kanan Kumar and his grandson. Rajatava Dutta will play Maayakumari’s husband. Indrasish Roy will play the character of the director from 2018. Other than them there will be Arunima Ghosh, Saurav Das, Anindita Bose, Falaque Rashid, Ambarish Bhattacharya and Joydeep Kundu in other significant characters.

It will be a musical and the songs will also have an influence of the periodic time frame. Bickram Ghosh is composing the music for the film. The film is scheduled to release during summer 2020.
