Raajhorshee De has started shooting for his next multi starer “Abar Kanchanjungha”

Year 2021 will mark the birth centenary of legendary filmmaker Satyajit Ray. On this special occasion, director Raajhorshee De is planning to pay a special tribute to the legend through his next movie Abar Kanchanjungha. The title may suggest it has something to do with Ray’s classic movie Kanchanjungha but the director has clarified there is no links between these two movies. It will be an original story that has been written by Raajhorshee himself. Padmanabha Dasgupta has written the screenplay and dialougues. According to the director, although it will be based on an original story but every scene of the film will carry the impression of Ray’s filmmaking style.

The story is about the reunion of the members of a joint family. As the story is about a joint family so there are multiple characters played by a bunch of talented actors which includes Saswata Chatterjee, Arpita Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen, Gaurav Chakrabarty, Rahul Banerjee, Tnusree Chakraborty, Bidipta Chakraborty, Richa Sharma, Anindya Chatterjee, Padmanabha Dasgupta, Devlina Kumar along with some popular faces from television like Ranieeta Das and Sohini Guha Roy. Singer Rupankar will also be a part of the ensmble cast. Actress Subhashree Ganguly’s elder sister Deboshree Ganguly will make her acting debut in the film.

As the title of the film suggests the story will unfold in an ancient home belonging to the family located in Darjeeling. A major portion of the film will be shot there. Shooting for the film has already started in Darjeeling maintaining all the safety norms related to the pandemic. It has became the first film to be shot in North Bengal after lockdown. As it is a tribute to Ray’s birth centenary so definitely the makers are planning to release it in 2021 but nothing has been confirmed about its release date as of now.
